Stitch Studio

Stitch Studio Sewing Workshops began with a simple but powerful idea: to help people discover their creative flair in fashion and dressmaking through small, accessible workshops. These workshops offer an affordable alternative to traditional courses, which often cost between R7,000 and R25,000.

Launched in December 2025 with a special Christmas edition, the response exceeded all expectations. The excitement grew quickly through calls, enquiries, ideas, and suggestions—shaping what has since evolved into a growing range of creative sewing workshops designed to inspire and empower.

Being creative is about far more than simply knowing how to sew. It’s about understanding fabrics, tools, finishes, and garment construction—the essential foundations of quality craftsmanship. It’s also about discovering your unique creative niche and using your skills to create meaningful pieces: thoughtful gifts, one‑of‑a‑kind garments, or favourite designs recreated in different colours and textures.

Most importantly, it’s about that deeply rewarding moment when you can proudly say, “I made that.”

What to expect…

Classes range from 2 to 4 hours per session, that can be spread over 3 weeks, depending on complexity, with costs ranging from R300 to R1,600. Longer workshops offer added value, including a deeper understanding of how to fully use your sewing machine, tools, and practical tricks of the trade.

The workshops are designed to be simple, accessible, and enjoyable, catering to everyone—from complete beginners who have never sat in front of a sewing machine to those who have created before, and want to deepen their skills. Expect an atmosphere filled with fun, creativity, and inspiration—a wonderful way to unwind and escape the stresses of everyday life.

Explore highlights from past workshops and see how participants who had never used a sewing machine before, went on to create pieces they never imagined possible.

What each workshop will provide

You bring the enthusiasm—we provide the time, guidance, and tools to help you learn a new skill and create with confidence. Each workshop includes project fabric, use of a sewing machine, a sewing kit (pins, scissors, tape measure, and more), a project pattern, instruction manual, all required haberdashery (thread, trims, etc.), and a welcoming space filled with like‑minded creatives 💃.

You’ll leave with a new skill, your finished project, your pattern and instruction guide, and the confidence and resources to create multiple versions at home.

Our workshops go beyond clothing and include projects such as bags, pillowcases, and apparel accessories (like sunglass holders), as well as homeware items, finishing off old projects, and upcycling garments into new, repurposed pieces. Sustainability in fashion is always at the heart of what we do—encouraging mindful making and creative reuse.

Thanks so much for your time, patience and wonderful teaching skills this afternoon. This class was simply amazing. My 15 year old and myself learnt so so much! We really enjoyed this class and cannot believe we made those bags! You have truly inspired us to keep sewing. Thank you!

I really enjoyed coming home with a new item that I made with the help of Michelle. I felt proud of myself. Michelle is well-spoken and explains so clearly and kindly that anyone can understand and learn how to sew. I had no previous knowledge about sewing (it was my first time at a sewing machine) and Michelle made it an enjoyable experience for me! Thanks Michelle!
